Eric Clapton est un guitariste, chanteur et compositeur de blues et de rock britannique né le 30 mars 1945 à Ripley, près de Londres (Angleterre). En 2003, le mensuel Rolling Stone l'a classé 4ème meilleur guitariste de tous les temps. L'Encyclopédie Américaine de la Guitare l'a quant à elle classé N°1 parmi les 15 meilleurs guitaristes au monde. Ses principales influences sont Freddy King, B.B King ou même Robert Johnson, de grands Bluesmen. Il commence vraiment sa carrière avec un groupe qui vivotait avant lui et qui est devenu primordial avec son arrivée : les Yardbirds. Il a participé à ce groupe de 1963 à 1965. C'est là qu'il acquiert son (premier) surnom de Slowhand, qui donnera plus tard le titre d'un de ses albums. Mais déçu par le choix de la chanson For Your Love du groupe en tant que single, il les quitta et alla rejoindre les Bluesbreakers de John Mayall. Il va donc commencer avec ce nouveau groupe en 1965. Contrairement aux Yardbirds, les Blues Breakers avaient déjà une belle notoriété dans le milieu blues. Clapton continue à développer son talent et sa réputation, mais se lasse de jouer dans les tripots, et va tenter une expérience vite avortée avec The Glands...2 mois après, il retourne avec les Blues Breakers, où il va finir par acquérir son surnom le plus connu encore aujourd'hui : God. Clapton va quitter le groupe peu avant la sortie de l'album mythique Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton. Il forma alors Cream à partir de 1966 avec Jack Bruce et Ginger Baker, où il fit évoluer sa musique vers un style plus psychédélique, tout en conservant ses racines blues. Il accrut encore plus sa notoriété avec 35 millions d'albums vendus. Ce fut lui qui dominait la scène guitaristique des années 60 avec Jimi Hendrix ou Pete ...
