Remember Apple’s 2018 MacBook Pro Throttlegate issue from last week? Particularly for the 15” MacBook Pro? On July 24, 2018 Apple issued a macOS supplemental update to version 10.13.6 to address a lack of processor optimization that resulted in CPU throttling and frequent clock speed jumps under heavy loads. This update applies to both the 13” and 15” 2018 MacBook Pro models. Lisa Gade re-ran our benchmarks and re-tested real world jobs like Handbrake encoding, Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere Pro to see how much improvement Apple made. Note that Apple’s fix is OS-based, it is not firmware or BIOS-based, so it applies only to performance under OS X.
