Bryan Ferry, (born 26 September 1945, Washington, County Durham, UK) is an English singer, musician, and songwriter. Ferry came to public prominence in the early 1970s as lead vocalist and principal songwriter with the band Roxy Music, who enjoyed a highly successful career with three number one albums and ten singles entering the top ten charts in the United Kingdom. Ferry began his solo career in 1973, while still a member of Roxy Music, which continues to the present day. Bryan Ferry est un auteur-compositeur-interprête anglais né le 26 septembre 1945 à Washington dans le Tyne et Wear au Nord-Est de l'Angleterre. Il est issu d'une famille pauvre, son père était mineur. Dans les années 60 il est le chanteur d'un groupe amateur "les Banshees". Il étudie aux Beaux-Arts à Newcastle, où il s’intéresse particulièrement au pop art et à l’art conceptuel avec comme professeur Richard Hamilton. En 1968, il s'installe à Londres où il exerce différents métiers, de livreur à enseignant dans un lycée de jeunes filles. En 1970 il passe une audition pour intégrer le groupe "King Crimson" qui ne le prendra pas, mais, Robert Fripp l'adresse à son agent de la firme E.G. Bryan Ferry rencontre Andy Mackay et Brian Eno étudiants à la "Winchester School of Art". Il recrute ensuite Paul Thompson et crée son groupe "Roxy Music". En 1972 le premier album de Roxy Music voit le jour, c'est un énorme succès. Certains spécialistes diront que c'est le meilleur album jamais sorti ! En 1973 suivent deux albums de Roxy Music : "Stranded", et "For your pleasure", comme le premier, entièrement écrits et composées par Bryan Ferry. Pour se "reposer" un peu Bryan Ferry décide de sortir un album solo "These fooling things" dans lequel il reprend les chansons qu'il aime, de Dylan à Elvis Presley en passant par les Rolling-stones ... pour le plaisir. C'est ainsi que depuis 1973 Bryan Ferry mène parrallèlement sa carrière au sein de Roxy Music et sa carrière en solo où il fait sans concessions, la musique qu'il aime avec des reprises et des créations. En 1999 Bryan Ferry consacre un album aux chansons des années 30 et 40 "As time goes by" qui sera nominé aux "Grammy". Et en 2007, il rend un hommage à Dylan dans son album ...
