Dolly Rebecca Parton est une chanteuse, compositrice et actrice américaine née le 19 janvier 1947 à Sevierville, Tennessee. Son premier album, Just Because I'm a Woman, est sorti en 1967. Depuis cette date, Dolly Parton a écrit au minimum un album tous les deux ans, et souvent plusieurs par an. Elle est à ce jour l'auteur de plus de 3000 chansons. C'est à Dolly Parton que nous devons "I Will Always Love You", tube qui a fait le tour du monde chanté par Whitney Houston, et "Jolene", morceau culte repris par les White Stripes et les Sisters of Mercy. Elle est également apparue dans une vingtaine de films, séries ou vidéos, parfois en tant que personnage-clé comme dans Comment se débarrasser de son patron (1980) avec Lily Tomlin et jane Fonda, ou encore Potins de femmes (1989) avec Julia Roberts, Sally Field, Daryl Hannah et Shirley McLaine entre autres. Dolly Parton est également propriétaire d'un parc d'attraction nommé Dollywood et est connue pour son action humanitaire (notamment dans le domaine de l'accès des enfants à la littérature). Son nom est inscrit au Country Music Hall of Fame et au Nashville Songwriter Hall of Fame, elle possède son étoile au Hollywood Walk of Fame, a reçu 7 Grammy Awards, 3 American Music Awards et un Golden Globe entre autres. A la fois glamour et kitsch, chrétienne et pin-up, Dolly Parton a affirmé sa forte personnalité à travers les années et entretient aujourd'hui une image sympathique de femme drôle, intelligente et indépendante, passionnée de musique country et très attachée à ses racines.
