Leonard Albert Kravitz, né à New York le 26 mai 1964, est un auteur-compositeur-interprète multi-instrumentiste, producteur et arrangeur américain. Ses compositions mêlent des éléments de rock, de hard rock, de rhythm and blues, de soul, de funk, de pop, et de reggae. Ses principales influences sont Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon et Prince. En plus de chanter et de faire les backing vocals, Kravitz est un musicien complet qui joue lui-même de tous les instruments lorsqu'il enregistre (guitare, basse, batterie, clavier et percussions). Il a gagné le Grammy Award pour la « Meilleure Performance Rock Masculine » quatre fois de 1999 à 2002. Ses ventes sont estimées à 32 millions d'albums dans le monde. Enfance Lenny Kravitz est le fils du producteur de télévision Sy Kravitz, un américain juif russe, et de l'actrice Roxie Roker, une bahaméenne d'origine Haïtienne. Bien que multiracial, Kravitz s'identifie plus avec son héritage haïtien et est largement reconnu comme un Afro-Américain. Entre 1975 et 1985, dès son plus jeune âge, Lenny Kravitz écoute du jazz et du R&B. Il part à Los Angeles où il chante dans le California Boys Choir et collabore avec Zubin Mehta. Sur les bancs du lycée, la Beverly Hills High School, il croise notamment Slash, le futur guitariste de Guns N' Roses (qui joue sur deux morceaux de l'album Mama Said) ainsi que l'acteur Nicolas Cage.
