Natural Sound Hundreds of demonstrators sympathetic to Yugoslavia have been burning cars and throwing fire bombs at the U-S Embassy in the Macedonian capital, Skopje. The trouble came only hours after the prime minister expressed concern over rising anti-NATO sentiment in Macedonia. In the capital, more than 2,000 demonstrators chanting "NATO out of Macedonia" threw stones, broke windows and hurled gasoline bombs at the U-S Embassy. Meanwhile Macedonian special police have arrested several men believed to be responsible for initiating the embassy attacks. Thousands of protestors chanting "NATO out of Macedonia" tried to storm the U-S embassy in Macedonia late on Thursday. In the process, cars were set alight, windows smashed and rocks were thrown at the embassy building. Riot police were called in to disperse the protestors. They drove them away with several rounds of tear gas, creating loud booming noises that some media reports initially said were explosions. Embassy staff are reported to have been unharmed. Meanwhile, late on Thursday night Macedonian special police arrested the alleged ringleaders, believed to be responsible for initiating the embassy attacks. Macedonia borders Yugoslavia, where NATO has staged airstrikes for two nights to try to force Yugoslavia to make peace with its ethnic Albanian separatists in Kosovo province. Macedonia has supported the NATO operation, but its Serbian minority is sympathetic to Yugoslavia. Many Macedonians also dislike the growing NATO presence in the country. Earlier, the demonstrators protested outside the German, French and British embassies, once again smashing windows and throwing eggs and paint at embassy signs. Waving flags of Yugoslavia and Macedonia, the protesters damaged a number of vehicles before heading to the U-S Embassy. Macedonian officials fear an influx of refugees from the Kosovo conflict will inflame tensions and overburden resources. Macedonia says it already has 20 thousand refugees from Kosovo and cannot handle any more.
