Description of the artist Neil Young
Neil Young (né à Toronto le 12 novembre 1945 ) est un auteur-compositeur-interprète et un guitariste de folk, country et rock canadien. Il est devenu l'un des musiciens les plus respectés et influents de sa génération. Commercialement, son apogée se situe au début des années 1970 avec des albums solo comme After the Gold Rush ou Harvest en plus de son rôle dans le très populaire groupe Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. La « marque de fabrique » de Neil Young est aisément reconnaissable, notamment par sa voix haut-perchée et ses textes très personnels. Ses chansons relèvent la plupart du temps de deux styles bien distincts : le premier, un folk-rock acoustique mâtiné de country comme dans les chansons Heart Of Gold, Old Man ou Long May You Run, et le deuxième, une forme de hard rock lancinant aux guitares saturées que l'on retrouve dans Cinnamon Girl, Southern Man et Rockin' in the Free World, ces chansons étant le plus souvent enregistrées avec Crazy Horse, le groupe qui l'a accompagné durant la plus grande partie de sa carrière. Il s'est néanmoins aventuré dans de nombreux styles : soul, swing, musique électronique, rockabilly. Il est considéré comme l'un des plus grands guitaristes à s'être exprimé dans ces différents styles. Neil Young a connu beaucoup de moments difficiles dans sa vie : maladies graves, des parents divorcés, divorce, deux garçons atteints d'handicaps moteur et mental et la disparition brutale d'amis. En dépit de toutes ces tragédies personnelles, Neil Young poursuit sa carrière de musicien depuis plus de 40 ans. Chaque album est particulièrement marqué par le contexte du moment présent.
