The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were watching a film about the former South African president when the news of the 95-year-old's passing broke. Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom, a film based on Mr Mandela's extraordinary life, premiered in Leicester Square in London as part of the Royal Film Performance on Thursday night. The film's cast, including British actor Idris Elba, who plays Mr Mandela, and Mr Mandela's daughter, Zindzi, were also at the event.
