Fernando Verdasco gave his all against Novak Djokovic in the Doha 2017 semi-final. Calm, measured performance versus a seemingly shaken Novak Djokovic... But Djokovic saves match points yet again, like he did against Roger Federer at the US Open in 2010 and 2011 (saved 2 consecutive match points in each occasion), like he did against Andy Murray in the 2012 Shanghai Final, and against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Roland Garros 2012... "I can't describe the second set in one word - I'd like to say tough luck to Fernando, he was clearly the better player for a big part of this match," said Djokovic afterwards, "He had some big court forehands; he should have finished it off and he didn't. "The conditions again were definitely not great...we struggled with consistency. It was definitely one of the most exciting matches I've played - I don't think I've saved five match points in my life too many times." Verdasco clinched victories over Vasek Pospisil, David Goffin and Ivo Karlovic during the course of the week. On Saturday's final, the second seed and defending champion Djokovic will face either World No. 1 Andy Murray or third seed Tomas Berdych, who play next in Doha.
