A Lively Mind est le deuxième projet artistique solo de Paul Oakenfold et son premier sur EMI. Auparavant, Paul a bien entendu sorti une myriade d’albums de remixes et d’autres projets dans lesquels il a pu exprimer sa fibre artistique. Rappelons en effet que Paul Oakenfold a été pendant longtemps l’une des personnalités les plus importantes – si ce n’est la plus importante – de la culture club. Même ceux qui ne s’intéressent pas trop à la culture DJ ou à la musique connaissent le nom de Paul Oakenfold et ce qu’il représente. Quant à ceux qui pensent ne pas connaître la musique de Paul, ils l’ont en fait certainement entendue plus d’une fois, ne serait-ce que par le biais de sa présence à la radio et à la télévision dans des publicités pour des grandes marques telles que Coca-Cola ,Toyota, Motorola et Saab – toutes diffusées en 2005, sans oublier ses contributions à des films à succès comme Opération Espadon (dont il a signé la bande son), Matrix 2, Matrix Reloaded et Collateral de Michael Man ainsi que le thème de Big Brother – dont il est l’auteur En fait, lorsque Paul, le DJ superstar, s’est produit à guichets fermés dans le cadre du Hollywood Bowl il y a deux ans, d’aucuns y ont vu la preuve absolue de l’avènement de la ‘dance culture’ aux Etats-Unis – comme un courant musical aussi fort que n’importe quel autre sur la scène pop actuelle. Cependant, lorsqu’il travaille en tant que DJ et/ou remixeur et qu’il sort des CDs de remixes (qui lui ont valu une nomination aux Grammy Awards), Paul n’exprime pas pleinement sa créativité musicale.
