Description of the artist Ringo Starr
Richard Starkey, musicien britannique MBE, (né le 7 juillet 1940) est plus connu sous son nom de scène, Ringo Starr, en tant que batteur du groupe de musique The Beatles. Il est le père du batteur Zak Starkey qui joue avec les Who et Oasis. Richard Starkey n'a pas eu une enfance tranquille. En effet, à l'âge de six ans, il est opéré d'une appendicite qui se transforme en péritonite. Il reste 18 mois à l'hôpital, et doit y retourner à 13 ans, pour six mois. Il fréquente donc peu l'école. Il sait lire, mais ne connait pas l'orthographe, il écrit phonétiquement. Il entre dans la formation le 16 août 1962 (remplacant Pete Best) jusqu’à la séparation du groupe en 1970. Avant de rejoindre les Beatles, il est de 1959 à 1962 le batteur du groupe Rory Storm and The Hurricanes originaire de Liverpool. Paradoxalement, il était déjà un musicien professionnel relativement chevronné quand John Lennon et Paul McCartney, les principaux compositeurs du groupe, n'en étaient qu'à leurs débuts. Ses talents musicaux se confinent à la batterie (on lui reconnaît notamment une excellente tenue du tempo) plutôt qu'au chant ou à l'écriture. Des membres des Beatles il est celui qui a écrit le moins de chansons. D'après les autres membres, lorsque Ringo propose une chanson pour un album, la mélodie (pour eux) rappelle souvent une autre chanson populaire. Ringo ne reconnaît pas ces similarités jusqu’à ce que ses camarades les lui indiquent. Ringo a toujours souffert d'un léger handicap par rapport aux 3 autres : on ne le prenait pas très au sérieux en dehors du groupe. En 1964, le batteur se fait opérer des amygdales et en 65, il épouse Maureen Cox, sa petite amie coiffeuse et en septembre 65, celle-ci donne un garçon à Ringo, Zak, qui deviendra ...
