(21 Mar 2018) Kosovo's opposition used tear gas to disrupt Wednesday's parliament vote on a border demarcation deal with Montenegro. Kosovo's Assembly, or Parliament, was temporarily suspended the moment the vote was about to start as canisters were thrown by members of the Self-Determination Movement Party known as "Vetevendosje". The opposition party says that Kosovo loses 8,200 hectares (20,000 acres) of its territory with the 2015 deal, though the previous government and international experts deny that. The deal is set as a precondition by the European Union (EU) for Kosovo's citizens to freely travel within its visa-free travel zone known as Schengen. Montenegro, which has approved the deal, recognises Kosovo's 2008 independence from Serbia, which Belgrade still rejects.
