Key points:A number of pedestrians injured but not believed to be in life-threatening conditionMale driver of car arrested by officers at the sceneNot clear if incident is terror related, police say London's Metropolitan Police said a number of pedestrians were injured in the incident but at this stage none of them are believed to be in a life-threatening condition. Footage on social media showed a handcuffed man being led away by heavily armed police. Eyewitnesses said the driver of the Ford Fiesta drove from one side of the road to the other, striking a group of cyclists before hitting the barricades. "Someone [was] driving towards parliament at speed, it wasn't normal, it's not a minor, like, accident, it's not like a road traffic incident," witness Jason Williams told UK's Sky News. Two people were treated at the scene for injuries that were not believed to be serious, London Ambulance service said. Media reports said a cyclist was among the injured. Television images showed police pointing their guns at a vehicle which appeared to have entered a lane used for access to the Parliament building before it stopped at a security barrier. London's Metropolitan Police said they are treating the crash outside Parliament as a terrorist incident. Britain's counter-terrorism police chief said investigators believe a man deliberately drove a car into pedestrians before crashing into barriers outside parliament on Tuesday and the arrested suspect was not cooperating with detectives. "Our priority now is to formally establish the identity of the suspect and establish his motivation if we can. He is not currently cooperating," London Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu said. Mr Basu said a man in his late 20s was "arrested on suspicion of terrorist offences". He added that no other suspects have been identified and there is no "intelligence" of further danger to London. Police are calling for anyone with information to come forward. No one else was in the car, which police said is being searched at the scene of the accident. They added that no weapons have been recovered at this stage. The incident happened about 7:37am local time, police said. Nearby Westminster Underground station was closed and the building cordoned off. No one was being allowed entry to Parliament. British Prime Minister Theresa May said her thoughts were with those injured in the incident. External Link: @theresa_May: My thoughts are with those injured in the incident in Westminster and my thanks to the emergency services for their immediate and courageous response As Parliament is in recess for summer most MPs are not using the building and Ms May is currently on holiday outside the UK.
