You said you wanted it and you got it: Revolution! The guitars were recorded direct into my Scarlett 2i2 and the gain was turned up to mimic how John and George recorded their guitars with harder clipping than a typical guitar amplifier. Paul's bass also has a slight tube distortion sound that was recreated in this cover. Nicky Hopkins added tasteful Hohner Pianet licks that really cut through the mix and help create more intensity during the guitar solo. Ringo's beat really drives this song forward and does much more for the song than playing a typical hi-hat rock beat; a prime example of Ringo's tasteful playing! There are some overdubbed tom parts throughout the song along with handclaps during the choruses. I believe the original song was recorded in A (standard tuning), but due to a tape speed increase the pitch was raised dramatically. I played the song at its released speed with the guitars tuned higher, with the A string tuned about halfway between Bb and B. Epiphone Casino being used for John's part was extensively modified to have all the visual and sonic characteristics of John's famous sanded Casino John played during the White Album and beyond. This Epiphone Casino was made in 2001 at the Peerless factory in Korea. The volume/tone pots were changed and the tone capacitors were replaced with Orange Drops. The neck pickup volume knob was replaced with a black one and a black "goof" washer was put underneath the pickup selector, just like Lennon's. Most notably was the replacement of the original tuners with gold, vintage-style Grover "Milk Bottle" Rotomatic tuners, the exact same kind that John had on his guitar. Interestingly, both the Inspired By John Lennon "Revolution" Casino and Limited Edition Lennon Revolution Casino do not have the milk bottle Grover tuners.
