Toto est un groupe de rock américain formé en 1977 à Los Angeles en Californie par Jeff Porcaro (batterie) et David Paich (clavier), auxquels se joignent Steve Lukather (guitare), Steve Porcaro (claviers), David Hungate (basse) et Bobby Kimball (chant). Au début des années 1980, le groupe atteint la consécration avec son album Toto IV, mais les médias américains se déchaînent contre la formation. Cependant, elle demeure populaire en Europe et au Japon. En 1982, Mike Porcaro remplace David Hungate à la basse. En 1992, Toto doit faire face à la mort accidentelle de son membre cofondateur, Jeff Porcaro. Il est remplacé par l'Anglais Simon Phillips. En 35 ans de carrière, Toto enregistre douze disques studio vendus à trente-cinq millions d'exemplaires et quatre albums live. Il remporte par ailleurs sept Grammy Awards. Des hits tels que Hold the Line, Africa, Rosanna sont des références qui ont donné une grande notoriété au groupe. Toto enregistre en février 2006 Falling in Between et son single Bottom of Your Soul. Entre 1979 et 2007, le groupe effectue une trentaine de tournées internationales. Le 6 juin 2008, Steve Lukather, alors seul membre de la formation d'origine, annonce son départ de Toto et la dissolution du groupe. En 2010, Toto se reforme pour une tournée estivale en Europe afin de soutenir son bassiste Mike Porcaro, atteint de la maladie de Charcot. Pour ce retour sur scène, le groupe se compose de Steve Lukather, David Paich, Steve Porcaro, Joseph Williams et Simon Phillips. Après l'intégration inattendue de Leland Sklar à la basse en 2007 pour la tournée mondiale, Toto fait cette fois-ci appel à un autre bassiste légendaire : Nathan East.
