Jan Harding, 67, was airlifted to a Salt Lake City trauma center after consuming a single sip of sweet iced tea at suburban barbeque restaurant.Unknown to Harding, the sugar used to sweeten the beverage had inadvertently been mixed with lye, a deadly compound normally used by the restaurant as a cleaning agent. Harding suffered life-threatening burns to her mouth, throat, and esophagus, and spent two weeks in the hospital’s burn unit.
