How I go about preparing the various sand boxes and barrels before sowing the Exhibition Show carrots. Both the long ones and the stump rooted ones are grown in sharp sand. Cores are taken out using a pipe to the desired depth and then the holes filled with a prepared finely sieved compost. The hardest thing is the preparation as once they are growing they seem to look after themselves. The variety of the long ones is "New Red Intermediate" and the Stump rooted variety is "Sweet Candle."
