Blur est un groupe Anglais de musique pop originaire de Colchester. Damon Albarn a rencontré Graham Coxon à Colchester, Essex, Angleterre, dans la Stanway Comprehensive School alors qu'ils n'étaient âgés que de 15 ans. Ils ne se sont plus quittés depuis. Graham a rencontré Alex James à Londres (Goldsmith Art School), qui, entre temps a rencontré Dave Rowntree. Et tout ça donne Seymour, qui répète pour la première fois She's So High autour de décembre 1989. Ensuite tout se déroule assez vite, ils signent chez Food Records qui leur demande de changer le nom du groupe. Blur est adopté et She's So High sort fin 1990. L'album Leisure arrive début 1991 et leur deuxième single There's No Other Way atteint une honorable huitième place dans les charts. Le troisième single, Bang, Blur préfère l'oublier. En 1993, Blur sort son deuxième LP, Modern Life Is Rubbish qui connait un succès assez relatif face à la mode grunge que Blur combat avec véhémence. Mais la reconnaissance arrive avec Parklife, qui sort en 1994, se posant en leader de la vague Britpop. C'est la consécration: quatre Brit Awards (Best Single: Parklife, Best Video: Parklife, Best Album, et Best British Band), record qui fera date. En 1995, The Great Escape se trouve au cœur d'une guerre cinglante avec Oasis où les rivaux se battent à coup de déclarations de plus en plus sulfureuses dans la presse. Blur ne sortira pas indemne de cette periode, où le groupe faillit se séparer… Il est encore bien difficile de dire, même aujourd'hui, à qui il faut attribuer la victoire; car si à l'époque, Country House écrasa Roll With It, Wonderwall est encore sur toutes les lèvres. Mais alors qu'Oasis sort son nouvel album, au festival de Reading (08/1999) Beetlebum était scandé par la foule...
