As long as there are kids, there are toys that are in demand. There have been hits and misses when it comes to toy development, but that doesn’t stop creative minds to experiment on new concepts and ideas for toys. But, we have to admit, some of the misses have been downright creepy. This video contains some of the creepiest kids toys ever made. Granted, tastes and preferences change over the decades, but some of these toys make us wonder what was going on in the minds of these toy companies when they decided to put these nightmares on the shelves. For example, in the 1970’s, there was “Baby Laugh-A-Lot”, which was basically a doll that had the creepiest laugh that could haunt your dreams. Not to mention, the doll’s permanent “laugh face” looked more like the doll was in the middle of a demonic scream. After the commercial was released, it shouldn’t be a huge surprise as to why the doll didn’t sell very well. Also, once the batteries ran low on the doll, the doll’s laugh sounds like it came from Satan himself. The “Bones Family” toys looked like something from a doll’s head from the 1950’s and the 1980’s toy “K’Nex” rolled into one in order to create nightmares. When put together, it looks like these children had every scrap of meat eaten off of them, with only their bones and fully intact heads, hands, and feet left. Why this toy didn’t stir up more nightmares, we will never know. But the toy was very unsettling, and wasn’t the biggest of hits. Let’s just say it didn’t fly off the shelves as expected. But creepy toys actually started back in the late 1800’s. Take “Paddy and the Pig” for example. For the technology of the time of its release, the concept was quite innovative. But the set up was purely terrifying. “Paddy and the Pig” was a bank, where you set a coin on top of the pig’s nose, and when you pull the hoof and let go, the coin flung to Paddy, where he stuck his tongue out, ready to ingest the coin. Speaking of creepy banks, the Face Bank looked more like Cassandra from Dr. Who. The face bank eats your coins and bills in a mouth chomping fashion with a face that is expressionless and downright scary. In the earliest versions of Mr. Potato Head, our favorite spud looked more like a monster from a bad SyFy movie than a lovable potato that you wanted to dress up in different ways. Another, more human version, of the dress up toy was “Hugo”. But, Hugo’s normal form was bald with creepy eyes that just look like he is dead inside. Why would a creepy bald man want to put on disguises for the amusement of children anyway? The world will never know. Fortunately, there are more creepy toys in this video to check out. And if you’re really feeling sinister, then you might want to head over to EBay to see if these toys are available for purchase.
